Let Me Count The Ways

Mood: Lovestruck
Music: I Love You, Climax Blues Band

Tonight will be a night of firsts for me and my husband; my first overnight trip since our twins were born, and his first night home with them alone. We'll be fine, although ranking among our most intense dislikes is sleeping apart.

Nighttime is our time, and it's not a sexual thing, although there is that, of course. The last ten minutes before we fall asleep is our marital mind meld. We tell each other things we've forgotten to mention that evening, or that week, or since we met. Most secrets come out then. My husband is an introvert who does not easily open up to people, and therefore I am the only person in the world who knows 90% of his secrets. I am much more social, but it's safe to say he's the sole keeper of about the same amount of mine.

So tonight, I'll turn down the sheets in my hotel room, and thinking of him lying in bed. He'll be reading the rest of the paper, or absorbed in an article in one of his magazines. At some point, we'll both assume the position - me the inner spoon, he the outer, and we'll miss the absent counterpart.

Tomorrow, I'll come home feeling all crush-y, even the brief absence making the heart grow fonder, etc., etc. Living with the object of my crush is a hell of a lot of fun.

It may seem this post has nothing to do with books or writing, but there will be a scene one day which chronicles a short absence much like this one, and tonight will have been its muse.

Have a great weekend.
